2018 Cleveland Marathon Training Post 4

2018 Cleveland Marathon

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Wow, it’s already mid-March and we still have snow on the ground as training for the 2018 Cleveland Marathon continues. I am a huge fan of the seasons here in Northeast Ohio, but once March/April rolls around I get antsy for warmer weather and running in shorts. Today I ran after work and the temperature was 27F with a real feel of 18F. Even though it was cool, the sun was out so it was great to get outside.

Cleveland Marathon Training Plan

Now that it is March, I have started mixing in speedwork and also included at least one run a week at marathon pace. This week, I recently did a workout with 7 800’s. It was a tough workout but was happy that I was able to complete it. The last 800 really pushed me, which was a great challenge. I’m hoping to build on this as we get closer to the 2018 Cleveland Marathon. The one thing that my training has been missing is the weekly runs of 5-9 miles at 30-45 seconds faster than marathon pace. I’m hoping to start those next week.

The plan for the upcoming week is to get a 16 miler in along with a few 1200’s and hopefully a few miles that are 30-45 seconds faster than marathon pace. The weather this weekend should be in the 50’s so I’m looking forward to some warmer weather.

Race schedule and weekly running photos

I was really hoping to run the St. Malachi 5 miler last week but was unable due to some other commitments that I had. I am still planning on running the Hermes 10 miler so I can understand what kind of shape I am in. I have done a few speedwork sessions and felt ok, but know I have a long way to go.

Here are a few pictures from this past week. The one picture is from a local park, the other is the doppler radar showing plenty of snow, and the other is from my drive on my back from Columbus on Thursday. If you follow me on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, then you may have already seen these pictures.

Weekly training details

Here are the details of my training this week. The details below include running and cycling workouts.

Weekly Mileage: 49 miles running, 12 miles cycling

I continue to slowly increase my mileage (no more than 10%) as we get closer to the 2018 Cleveland Marathon.
