Saucony Hurricane 23 Shoe Review

Saucony Hurricane 23

The Saucony Hurricane running shoe has been my workhorse stability shoe for all of my longs over the past few years. With the introduction of the Saucony Hurricane 22 last year, the shoe was transformed from the previous Hurricane ISO 5.

After seeing and reading about the Saucony Hurricane 23, I was really looking forward to trying the shoe with the updated upper and guidance frame.

The Saucony Hurricane 23 is available in 2 colors. I do wish there were more colors, but am glad there is at least a dark and a lighter color option. At the time of this review, the other men’s color was a black color option.

I have ordered a 1/2 size up with previous versions of this shoe as I have always been an 11 or 11.5. The width of the shoe remains similar to previous versions.

Saucony Hurricane 23 Shoe Verdict

Our Rating:
Viewer Rating:

The Saucony Hurricane 23 shoe is the best stability running shoe I have run in this year. This may be a bold statement, but this shoe is really comfortable, supportive, and incredibly responsive.

The updated structured upper improve fit and the guidance frame provide the necessary stability for those who overpronate. The updated heel improves the fit and is ready to go right out of the box.

If you are looking for a stability shoe that is great for long runs and daily training, I would strongly recommend giving the Hurricane 23 shoe a try.

Saucony Hurricane 23 Initial Thoughts

While I was a big fan of the Saucony Hurricane 22, I didn’t love it, especially the upper of the shoe. After seeing and reading about the Hurricane 23, I was really excited to give this show a try and see if the shoe felt as good as it looked.

As soon as I opened the box, I was impressed with how the shoes looked. I have always thought Saucony usually provides at least one great color option. This color option is that.

The first run in these shoes was 7 miles and I will tell you it was a glorious 7 miles. All it takes is one run in this shoe and you will be hooked. Glad to have this as a daily trainer and for those long runs.

Saucony Hurricane 23 Shoe Overview

The Saucony Hurricane 23 is a stability running shoe from Saucony. If you overpronate and need a responsive shoe, this is for you. Stability shoes are great for those who have a mild to moderate pronation, something I tend to do. If you wear stability shoes, then you already know there aren’t nearly as many options compared to neutral shoes.

The PWRRUN+ sole is responsive and provides a similar feel to the Hurricane 22. The revamped upper of the shoe improves fit and is an upgrade from last years version.

The weight of these shoes are similar to the its predecessor weighing 11.4 ounces for a men’s 9. Even though these shoes are on the heavier side, they feel lighter due to the responsiveness of these shoes.

Saucony Hurricane 23 Shoe Upper

While I liked the Hurricane 22, the one thing that was a little off to me was the upper of the shoe. I had high hopes for the Hurricane 23 after reading there were updates to this part of the shoe.

The Hurricane 23 continues to use FORMFIT, but also has a new engineered mesh upper improving fit and support. Saucony.com states that the latest upper “FORMFIT acts like a luxurious bucket seat for your foot, conforming to you for the perfect fit and providing comfort from every angle.”

The ankle collar also had a big update that I really like. I wasn’t sure how it would feel, but it has been very comfortable.
