Looking for a max cushion shoe with an insane amount of CloudTec® pods? If the answer is yes, then you will be excited to hear about the On Cloudmonster running shoes.

It’s exciting to hear about all of the new running shoes that On is creating. I previously reviewed the Cloudvista, which was right around the time I started running in the On Cloudmonster shoes for this review.

The name of these shoes is based on the monstrous amounts of CloudTec® pods and Helion foam on this shoe. At first glance you may think these are Hokas as this is On’s max cushion shoe with the most CloudTec® pods ever used on a shoe. This is impressive considering the shoe weighs under 10oz.

Sizing Recommendation: I would recommend ordering a 1/2 size up when buying the On Cloudmonster.

At the time of this review there were two color options. I really liked the color combination I wore for this review. The other color for men’s is a dark blue, almost purple. Color options do vary slightly for both the men’s and women’s shoes.

On Cloudmonster Shoe Verdict

Our Rating:
Viewer Rating:

The verdict for the On Cloudmonster shoe is pretty simple in my ind. If you are looking for a max cushion and support you, you need to give this shoe a try. While it is technically a neutral shoe, it naturally has some stability to it. I typically wear stability shoes and had no problems when running in these.

While this shoe is a little pricy, you will appreciate the support, cushion, and responsiveness of this shoe. If you are a fan of the On Cloudstratus, you will definitely like this shoe.

This shoe reminds of Hoka shoes I used to wear, but these are wider and feel faster.

This On Cloudmonster running shoe retail price is $170.

The upper is thin and lightweight, so you may want to wear heavier socks if you are wearing these during the winter. The sole is similar to the Cloudstratus, but as you can see from the sole pictures, the abrasion pads are placed in slightly different places.

I wore these up to 15 miles and had no issues at all, something that was a little surprising. While I really like these shoes, I would probably still pick the On Cloudstratus over these because they have plenty of support with a sleeker shoe profile.

This could easily be one of my new shoes for longer or recovery runs.

About the On Cloudmonster Shoe

The On Cloudmonster running is the latest max cushion running shoe from On Running. This shoe is packed with comfort and responsiveness due to the Helion foam and the CloudTec® pods, making it their most cushioned shoe they have ever produced. If you name a shoe Cloudmonster, it better be a beast.

The Cloud monster is packed with Helion foam and CloudTec® pods, even more than the On Cloudstratus shoe.

The Cloudmonster has a simple and thin upper making it breathable, lightweight and comfortable. You will notice how thin it is when you first put on the shoe.

The shoe has a 6mm drop is average for most shoes in the neutral shoe category. I usually prefer something a little higher, but this felt great at 6mm.

On Cloudmonster Initial Thoughts

Ever since I started running in the On Cloudstratus, I always wondered if they would create a shoe that I like more than it. When I saw the On Cloudmonster, it immediately reminded me of the Cloudstratus, which was really exciting to see.

When I first opened the box, I immediately noticed the Cloudtec down the side of the shoe. While the shoe looked similar to the Cloudstratus, you could tell it had more support and cushion, making me want to try these shoes out. The color combination was sleek and the shoe looked great.

When I first put these those shoes on, they felt like Hokas, but wider. For my first run, I ran 5 miles. I was impressed with the level of support, cushion, and comfort of these shoes. A great first impression for the On Cloudmonster.

On Cloudmonster Upper

When you put on the Cloudmonster, you will immediately notice how lightweight and breathable the upper material is. Part of the reason the shoe is so light is due to how thin the upper and tongue is.

The material on the upper part of the On Cloudmonster running shoe is lightweight and extremely breathable.

The engineered mesh provides a sock-like fit, something that I noticed when putting these on. As I mentioned, this is one of the thinnest tongues I have seen on a shoe. I usually like a little bit of padding just to help with the pressure of laces when tying shoes.

Below are a few pictures of the upper portion of the On Cloudmonster.

On Cloudmonster Sole

The sole of the On Cloudmonster looks similar to the Cloudstratus, with the exception it has even more CloudTec® pods and Helion foam, making it incredibly comfortable.

If you turn the shoe over, you will see that this shoe continues to include the speedboard, which improves responsiveness, even with the foam pods. If you have worn other On shoes you already know this.

One last thing you may notice is if you look at the shoe profile, the shoe has a rocker geometry, something that was common on many Hoka shoes and promotes a natural running movement.

“Running never felt like this. Our biggest Cloud elements ever meet an ultra powerful Speedboard®. The result? Extremely soft landings and maximum rebound, for energy return you won’t believe.”

One thing that I didn’t get to verify is the durability of the soles as I only have around 100 miles on the shoe at the time of this review. I do hope that the heels are more durable than the soles on the Cloudstratus.

Below are a few pictures of the sole on the On Cloudmonster sole.
