2018 Cleveland Marathon Training Post 3

2018 Cleveland Marathon

Cleveland Marathon training continued into the 3rd week of February and I’m happy to report that things are going as planned. I was hoping to get some speedwork in this past week, but it wasn’t in the cards. I will try to get some speedwork in on Thursday with a long run on Saturday or Sunday, depending on the weather. While I’m certainly not in the best shape, I’m continuing to slowly increase my mileage in an effort to remain healthy and enjoy running this spring.

As I mentioned in my last post I’m trying to be smarter this year and only increase my mileage by no more than 10%, which is suggested by a number of different resources. I have had a few aches and some soreness, but that is normal as you increase mileage.

Cleveland Marathon Training Plan

I am getting closer to finalizing an actual training plan as we get closer to May (about 80 days until race day). I have been mixing in speedwork and continue to get some double-digit training runs. The plan for the upcoming week is to get some 800’s in (hoping 5-6) followed by a 10-15 miler this weekend. I ran 10 this past weekend and felt ok so I’m hoping I’ll be able to slow it down a little and run an additional 5 miles.

I’m hoping that the weather here in Northeast Ohio will be kind to me this weekend. The initial weather forecast calls for mid 30’s, which isn’t too bad as long as it doesn’t rain. I did get a run in today and it was 45*F and sunny. It was weird to wear sunglasses.

Race schedule and weekly running photos

I’m trying to finalize my spring race schedule. I’m looking at the St. Malachi 5 miler and Hermes 10 miler. I need to get a few races in before the Cleveland Marathon so that I can understand my condition level.

Here are a few pictures from my runs this past week. The one picture is my son and I walking this past weekend. It’s amazing we can have snow and shorts in the same week. Welcome to Ohio! If you follow me on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, then you may have already seen these pictures.
