Asics GT-2000 7 Shoe Review

Asics GT-2000 7

If you have read the GT-2000 6 review, then you already know I have been a big an of this shoe over the past couple years. While a number of different readers have mentioned that the durability of the shoe was worse than previous versions, I didn’t have many problems with the 6th version of the shoe. The latest GT-2000 shoe includes the FlyteFoam technology, giving the shoe a responsive and lightweight feel.

Here is a a quote from Asics about FlyteFoam technology. “It took the ASICS Institute of Sports Science three years in development and 300 individual prototypes to engineer our lightest, most responsive cushioning system ever — and provide you the ultimate feeling of flight.”

The Asics GT-2000 shoe model has been one of my favorite shoes over the past 3-4 years. I still have a few pairs of the GT-2000 5 that I wear on my runs of 3-8 miles. I am looking forward to incorporating the latest version of one of my favorite shoes.

Below are pictures of the Asics GT-2000 7 that I wore for this review. At the time of this review, there were 5 available colors each for men and women.

Asics GT-2000 7 Verdict

I am not gonna lie and will say that I continue to be a fan of the Asics GT-2000 shoe model. Last year I wore these shoes while I recovered from some minor injuries and this year they helped keep me injury free. As I get older, finding the right shoe is so important to staying injury free. I am happy to say that the GT-2000 7 is even better than previous versions. The FlyteFoam sole and improved upper will be enough to keep this in my rotation of running shoes.

If you are looking for a lighter stability running shoe that is supportive and responsive, then I recommend trying the Asics GT-2000 7 running shoe. If you have tried the Asics GT-2000 6, you will notice that this shoe is similar in some regards. The updated toe box and sole will improve the stability and performance of this shoe.

Similar to previous versions of this shoe, it has a wide version, which is great for those who need a wider shoe. One thing to note about this is that only select colors have a wide option.

About the Asics GT-2000 7

The Asics GT-2000 7 is the latest Asics stability shoe equipped with FlyteFoam sole technology. FlyteFoam provides incredible cushioning that is lightweight. In addition to the FlyteFoam sole the GT-2000 7 has some updates to the toe box and sole that will improve stability and comfort of the shoe.

The FlyteFoam sole is approximately 55% lighter than the standard EVA sole material found in other running shoes.

The FlyteFoam sole and redesigned upper improve the comfort of the shoe. The shoe weighs similar to the previous version so don’t expect the shoe to be much lighter than the previous version. Having worn both of the previous models, I could immediately feel the difference in weight.

Asics GT-2000 7 Initial thoughts

When I first opened the box and picked up the Asics GT-2000 7 shoe, I really liked the updates to the toe box and though the minor tweaks really add to the tradition of this popular shoe. In addition to the lightweight feel, I liked the color options and improved sole of this stability shoe.

Before I run outside in all of my running shoes, I always walk around the house and stairs to see how they feel for everyday wear. These shoes felt great from the start and looked great.

In some of the other reviews I read about this shoe, most agree that the updates to the shoe will improve the durability concerns that some other runners noticed.

My first real run was an 8 miler on a dry paved running trail. The shoe was supportive and responsive.

Asics GT-2000 7 Upper

I liked the upper in previous versions of the GT-2000, but when I put on the GT-2000 7, I noticed that it was a little different than the GT-2000 6. Turns out that Asics used some of the technologies from the latest Kayano and opened the toe box to improve the fit of this shoe.

According to Asics.com, the “the upper of the GT-2000® 7 shoe has been enhanced with a new engineered mesh for a glove-like fit over the top of the foot.

One other change to the upper of this shoe was the mesh upper of the shoe. The updated mesh is a woven little tighter than before and should be more durable than the last version. I read a number of reviews of the GT-2000 6 and runners who had problems who had the upper of the shoe rip.

There are 5 color options and really do think that the color options I wore for this review were the best option available.

Asics GT-2000 7 Sole

The sole of the Asics GT-2000 7 was tweaked slightly for the latest version of this shoe. The sole continues to made of High Abrasion Rubber+ (AHAR) , meaning it is extremely durable.

The FoamFlyte technology is 55% lighter than the traditional EVA sole. This means more cushion with a lightweight feel, something most runners look for in a shoe. With this version, there are gel inserts that help with shock absorption.

The Impact Guidance System (IGS) provides a natural transition with each step. The DYNAMIC DUOMAX® support system continues to help guard against overpronation. The sole of previous versions of the GT-2000 model lasted between 350-400 miles so I would expect these to be durable as well.
