Asics GT-2000 9 Shoe Review

Asics GT-2000 9

The Asics GT-2000 has been one of my favorite running shoes since I started running. While it may not be the lightest shoe, it offers plenty of stability and has an incredible fit. The latest version of the Asics GT-2000 shoe has a few updates that make this shoe even better than its predecessor. With the latest version, the Asics GT-2000 continues to be one of the best stability running shoes on the market.

If this is the first time reading about the Asics GT-2000 running shoe, you should check out my review of last years model, the GT-2000 8 review.

“If you’re looking for a lightweight and cushioned running shoe to help support your foot, the GT-2000™ 9 model is an excellent choice. The fit of the GT-2000™ 9 shoe has been redesigned with a one-piece mesh construction to create an improved fit. This new upper material has also been reinforced in key areas for added support as the foot rolls through the gait cycle. Lastly, a combination of FLYTEFOAM® technology and GEL® technology cushioning are positioned in the midsole to help promote lightweight comfort and reduce the overall shock from impact.”

I still have a few pairs of the GT-2000 8’s that I continue to wear on my shorter runs and around town. One other thing to mention is that these shoes are very durable. New shoes tend to have softer soles which tend to wear faster. This shoe continues to perform and lasts longer than most of the running shoes I currently run in.

Below are pictures of the Asics GT-2000 9 that I wore for this review. At the time of this review, there were 6 available colors for men and women. There was a trail version of the GT-2000 8, but at the time of this review it was unavailable.

Asics GT-2000 9 Verdict

Our Rating:
Viewer Rating:

While I am not surprised, the Asics GT-2000 9 continues to be a great stability running shoe. I was pleasantly surprised and the lighter weight and redesigned upper portion of the shoe. The FlyteFoam sole and improved upper will make this a regular within my running shoe rotation.

If you are looking for a light stability running shoe that is supportive and responsive, then I recommend trying the Asics GT-2000 9 running shoe. If you run in the Asics GT-2000 8, you will notice that this shoe is very similar, but felt lighter and fit better.

This shoe continues to have a wide version which makes it great for those who need a wider shoe. The standard width (D) felt wider than most of my other running shoes and can only imagine the wide version provides even more room.

About the Asics GT-2000 9

The Asics GT-2000 9 is the latest Asics mid-level stability running shoe equipped with FlyteFoam sole technology. while this isn’t new technology, it provides a lightweight feel that provides plenty of cushion and support. The slightly redesigned upper and improved sole does improve the fit, but not drastically compared to the GT-2000 8.

Lastly, a combination of FLYTEFOAM® technology and GEL® technology cushioning are positioned in the midsole to help promote lightweight comfort and reduce the overall shock from impact.

Having worn the last 5 versions of this shoe, I can confidently say that this is the best version so far. From the time I picked it up to the time I finished my first run, I was satisfied with the look and feel of this consistent performing stability shoe.

Asics GT-2000 9 Initial thoughts

When I first opened the box and picked up the Asics GT-2000 9 shoe, I was immediately drawn to the sleek design and great color option that I wore for this review. The shoe felt lighter, upper knit felt soft, and the heel was soft and really comfortable from the start.

Before I run outside in any new running shoe, I always walk around the house and stairs to see how they feel for everyday wear. These shoes felt great from the very first step, something that doesn’t happen with every shoe.

In some of the other reviews I read about this shoe, most agree that the updates to the shoe improve the fit and feel, especially with the tweaks to the upper of the shoe.

My first real run was an 5 miler on a paved bike and hike trail. After finishing this run I almost wanted to continue as I think this could be a shoe that would work well almost any distance.

Asics GT-2000 9 Upper

The Asics GT-2000 9 had minimal updates to the upper portion of the shoe. The main update was a one-piece mesh upper that improves the fit. I usually struggle with narrow shoes and the one-piece mesh provided plenty of room and plenty. The seamless material not only looks better but should perform better as wel.

The fit of the GT-2000™ 9 shoe has been redesigned with a one-piece mesh construction to create an improved fit. This new upper material has also been reinforced in key areas for added support as the foot rolls through the gait cycle.

The new upper material feels lighter and improves the fit, but the one thing I have noticed with other shoes during winter months is that these knit uppers don’t handle the snow and rain very well. The pictures below will shoe the updated upper, which is definitely different than the GT-2000 8.

One thing to note is that the upper is lighter and has increased breathability, which is great for those longer runs during those warm summer runs or treadmill workouts. As I mentioned though, this may not be the best for runs in snow or rain.

Asics GT-2000 9 Sole

The sole of the Asics GT-2000 9 had minimal changes with the latest version of this shoe. The sole continues to be made of High Abrasion Rubber+ (AHAR), meaning it is extremely durable, something that I can attest to with the previous version. As I mentioned earlier, the sole of this shoe looks very similar to previous versions.

The FlyteFoam is 55% lighter than the traditional EVA sole. This version of the shoe has a lighter and softer sole, that even though its subtle you can feel it if you have been running in prior versions of the Asics GT-2000 shoes.

The Impact Guidance System (IGS) provides a natural transition with each step. The DYNAMIC DUOMAX® support system continues to help guard against overpronation.
