Asics Gel-DS Trainer 19 Initial Thoughts
When I first picked up the shoe, my initial thoughts were that the shoes not only looked great, but they were lighter than I expected. The sole also seemed a little softer than some of the other running shoes that I worn. The paper-thin mesh over the toe was thinner than expected.
The initial run in these shoes not only felt softer than expected, but the shoes were very comfortable and felt easy to land on the forefoot of the shoe. I ran a few faster miles and the lightweight shoe made for a smooth and enjoyable run.
Asics Gel-DS Trainer 19 Sole
The sole of the Ascis Gel-DS Trainer 19 running shoe has some of the typical technologies you would expect from Asics. The standard DuoMax Support System and Impact Guidance System (IGS) can be found on some of the previous trainer models. These technologies not only provide enhanced support, but also enhance the natural gait of the foot.
One of coolest new feature of this shoe is the Propulsion Trusstic technology. This feature allows for a more natural motion and encourages forefoot striking. Something that everyone should strive to do.
Another feature that was introduced with this shoe is the Wet Grip outsole. This special blend of organic and non-organic components provide enhanced traction on wet surfaces.
Asics Gel-DS Trainer 19 Upper
The Asics Gel-DS Trainer upper is not only lightweight, but almost too lightweight. The tongue is thin, but felt great when tying the shoelaces. The toe box has a very thin mesh covering that had me a little concerned about the durability of this part of the shoe.
The Active Guy Conclusion
The Asics Gel-DS Trainer 19 is a great looking lightweight shoe that has a the right amount of support and balance. This shoe is ideal for racing, speed work, and tempo runs. Even thought this shoe has a softer feel, I would not recommend this for longer training runs.
If you are a mild over pronator and are looking for a great tempo and racing shoe that is value priced, then I would suggest you check this shoe out!
