The Cleveland Marathon has always been one of my favorite races for a number of different reasons. The course, the city, and the experience make the Cleveland Marathon a great race. I will say that the race weather varies greatly every year, so be prepared for heat, snow, and any other weather situation.

What makes the Cleveland Marathon great?
1. The city.
The city continues to grow and evolve, so there is something new every year to see. I have lived in Northeast Ohio for 30 years and have run the streets of Cleveland for years.
2. Race Gear.
The Cleveland Marathon usually has great shirts, hats, and other swag that you get with your race entry and additional stuff you can buy at the race expo.
3. The course.
The Cleveland Marathon course takes you through all the great areas of Cleveland and also provides some great views of Lake Erie and the Cleveland skyline. The course has changed over the years as the race has evolved.

4. Race options.
The Cleveland Marathon Race Series has a distance for just about anyone. With the options on both Saturday and Sunday, you really have no excuse not to run. Whether its a 5k, 10k, or a marathon, the Cleveland Marathon really has something for everyone.

Cleveland Marathon Ambassadors
The Cleveland Ambassadors are a group of people that promote the city and the race. In addition to promoting the race, they share training plans and races on the Cleveland Marathon Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter profiles.
I had the opportunity to be an Ambassador for a few years and it was great to promote a race that so many people are passionate about.

About the Cleveland Marathon
The Cleveland Marathon began in 1978 and in the top 50 oldest marathons in the US. During race weekend Cleveland hosts between 15,000-20,000 runners and walkers in addition to thousands of spectators.
The Cleveland Marathon has a number of different sponsors that make this a great race in a great city. Some of the main sponsors include Meijer, University Hospital, Fat Heads Brewery, and more.
The Cleveland Marathon is a relatively flat course, making it fast when weather conditions are right.

2026 Cleveland Marathon Race Details
The 2026 Cleveland Marathon dates are scheduled for Saturday and Sunday, May 16 & 17, 2026. The schedule of events is below:
- Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 7:30 a.m. – 5K & 10K
- Saturday, May 16, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. – Kids Run
- Sunday, May 17, 2026 at 7:00 a.m. – Full and Half Marathon
