Saucony Hurricane ISO 4 Shoe Review

Saucony Hurricane ISO 4

The Saucony Hurricane ISO 4 running shoe is now available. I wrote about the Hurricane ISO 2 a few years back but didn’t write about the Hurricane ISO 3 last year. Seeing the difference between the Hurricane ISO 2 and Hurricane ISO 4 make me really excited about the latest version of this shoe.

If you have read my Hurricane ISO 2 review, then you know I like the Hurricane model. A few years ago I wore the original Hurricane shoe on all of my long runs, which led to my PR at the Toledo Glass City Marathon.

The full EVERUN sole and the ISOFIT upper are great updates that make the latest version of the Hurricane ISO 4 even better than last years model.

Below are pros and cons of the updated Saucony Hurricane ISO 4 model.

Pros Cons
  • Lightweight feel
  • Responsive sole
  • True sizing
  • Expensive ($165)
  • Color options

Saucony Hurricane ISO 4 Shoe Verdict

Our Rating:
Viewer Rating:

The latest model of this continues the great tradition of the Hurricane. The Hurricane ISO 4 is lightweight, responsive, and is the best stability running shoe that Saucony offers.

The updated sole is now an all EVERUN which provides increased responsiveness and support. The sole in previous versions have been durable and expect this to remain with the latest version.

The ISOFIT upper makes this incredibly comfortable all at a weight that is reasonable for a stability shoe. These shoes run true to size so don’t worry about having to adjust your size for this shoe.

If you are looking for a stability shoe that is great for long runs and daily training, give this shoe a try. I would rate them a little higher if they had the extra support that some other stability shoes have I run in. One thing to note, if you have severe pronation, you may want to look for another stability shoe.

Saucony Hurricane ISO 4 Initial Thoughts

When I first read about the Hurricane ISO 4’s I was excited to give these shoes a try for a few reasons. Having read that this version had an updated full EVERUN sole and an even better ISOFIT upper, I had a feeling that these shoes would be extremely comfortable and responsive. Additionally, the color option was pretty cool. I really liked the grey and blue combinations of this shoe (this color is also available in a wide version).

I wore these shoes around the house and really didn’t want to take them off as they felt incredible. My first run was a 4 miler on my Sole Fitness F65 treadmill. All was great with the first run in these shoes.

Here are a few pictures of the shoes I wore for this review.

Saucony Hurricane ISO 4 Shoe Overview

The Saucony Hurricane ISO 4 running shoe is the top stability shoe that Saucony currently offers. If you have mild to moderate pronation then this shoe is something that you will want to try. The updated EVERUN sole is flexible, comfortable and responsive.

One of the main updates with the Hurricane ISO 4 is the full EVERUN sole. This means that the Hurricane ISO no longer uses the PWRGRID+ midsole with an EVERUN insert. The updated sole delivers a responsive and comfortable ride. Many of the other Saucony shoes (Freedom ISO, Liberty ISO)are moving to the full EVERUN soles due to customer feedback. I will go into more details about the sole later in the review.

The upper of the shoe has an updated flex groove system which makes it even more comfortable. Even though these shoes weigh in at 11.2 oz for a men’s 9, they feel lighter than I thought they would. If you need the lightest shoes on the market, these may not be for you.

Saucony Hurricane ISO 4 Shoe Sole

The updated sole to the Hurricane ISO 4 is by far the biggest improvement to this shoe. The updated full EVERUN sole makes a huge difference with regards to feel, responsiveness, and support. As I mentioned earlier, this shoe previously used a combination of PWRGRID+ midsole, which has been removed with the Hurricane ISO 4.

If you want to learn more about the enhanced energy return that the EVERUN sole provides check out the Saucony EVERUN page. Pretty cool to see how this new technology provides continuous return and improved durability.

The new grooves in the sole allow the shoe to be flexible and improves traction on uneven surfaces. If you look at the pictures below, you will see the grooves, something Saucony has used in other models.

Saucony Hurricane ISO 4 Shoe Upper

The one thing that didn’t change too much this was the upper of the Hurricane ISO 4. If you look at the pictures below, you may or may not notice the actual updates that were made to this compared to its predecessor.

The Hurricane ISO 4 continues to utilize the ISOFIT upper, which is a sock-like feel that provides increased comfort. The ISOFIT is an adaptive fit system that shapes to your foot and helps increase support as you increase mileage.

Some other updates included a redesigned lacing system, improved mesh, and an overlay near the toe of the shoe.

Below are pictures of the upper on the Hurricane ISO 4.

  • Hi,
You mentioned that the full EVERUN midsole made huge difference in regards to feel. Could you elaborate on what the difference is in feel? Thanks.

    • Mark, hey thanks for the question. If you have worn the same model of the shoe with and without the full EVERUN, you will know what I’m talking about. The full EVERUN provides a bit more energy return and adds a little more bounce to your step. Most of the newer models from Saucony are starting to all have this type of sole. If you have any other questions, let me know. Thanks!

    Hi,
Have you tried out the Saucony Guide ISO’s and if so how do these shoes compare to them? I’ve run in the Guides for a while now, but I’m finding I have arch pain with the new Guide ISO’s which I have not experienced with this shoe in the past. Thanks.

    • Michael, thanks for the question. I have reviewed the Saucony Guide ISO’s, actually wore them today. A big fan of this shoe. I haven’t experienced any arch pain but would say that the big difference is the EVERUN sole. It does seem like there is less arch support in the Hurricane 4’s. I would give them a try and see how they feel, especially if you are having arch pain. Let me know if you have any other questions!

i have a high arch, can i still wear this shoe

    • William, thanks for the question. What shoes are you currently wearing? I have a medium arch and have no issues with the shoe. Based on how it feels for me, I don’t know if it would be ideal for you. Do you have a local running shop you could stop in and try it on?
