Saucony Hurricane 22 Shoe Review

Saucony Hurricane 22

The Saucony Hurricane ISO shoe has been my goto running for longer runs over the past few years. The Hurricane shoe always provided the right amount of cushion and responsiveness. I was really looking forward to trying the Saucony Hurricane 22 because of the updated upper and foam sole.

If you have read my Hurricane Iso 5 review, then you know I have been a huge fan of the Hurricane ISO shoe. While I have enjoyed everything about previous versions, I was excited to hear that the Saucony Hurricane 22 had an all new upper and an even better foam sole.

If you prefer support, stability, and cushion, you will want to take a look at the Hurricane shoe. The Saucony Hurricane 22 is available in 2 colors for both men and women. I do wish there were more colors, but am glad there is at least a dark and a lighter color option.

I have ordered a 1/2 size up with previous versions of this shoe as I have always been an 11 or 11.5. The width of the shoe remains similar to previous versions.

Saucony Hurricane 22 Shoe Verdict

Our Rating:
Viewer Rating:

The Saucony Hurricane shoe continues to be a great running shoe line. The updated Hurricane 22 continues to be extremely comfortable, supportive, and incredibly responsive.

The all new PWRRUN+ sole is lighter and more responsive than its predecessor. I have usually been able to get 350-400 miles of previous Hurricane ISO models and expect to get that as well with this newer version.

One other thing to note is that the upper of this shoe is new. The newly designed mesh upper provides an improved fit and support.

If you are looking for a stability shoe that is great for long runs and daily training, I would recommend giving this shoe a try.

Saucony Hurricane 22 Initial Thoughts

Knowing that the Hurricane Iso 5 has been my one of my favorite shoes over the past 2 years, I was really excited to give the Hurricane 22 a try.

One of the things I was excited about was the new foam PWRRUN+ sole. Not only was this supposed to be lighter, but more responsive. The color option worn for this review were solid. I liked the light grey option and I could tell that the updated sole and mesh upper were different than the Hurricane ISO 5.

The first run in these shoes was 10 miles. I usually wouldn’t start with 10 miles, but was confident that these shoes would feel similar to other Hurricane shoes. As expected, these shoes felt great. I plan on wearing these for all of my long runs and as I train for the 2020 Boston Marathon.

Stability shoes are great for those who have a mild to moderate pronation then this shoe is something that you will want to try.

Saucony Hurricane 22 Shoe Sole

The sole to the Hurricane 22 had a makeover with the latest version. The all new PWRRUN+ sole is 25% lighter than the previous EVERUN sole and even more ressponsive, making this a great update. The actual sole itself is similar, but the foam is definitely something you will notice when you first put this shoe on.

Saucony states the PWRRUN+ foam sole is “Our lightest cushioning technology. 28% lighter, in fact than our previous foam.” Visit the PWRRUN+ page to learn more.

The shoe has a similar Tri-Flex Crystal Rubber sole so you can expect the sole durability to be better than most running shoes.

Saucony Hurricane 22 Shoe Upper

Not only was the sole upgraded, but the upper portion of the Saucony Hurricane 22 was also revamped with the latest version. The previous versions of the Hurricane had an ISOFIT upper, which I liked, but defintiely didn’t feel as comfortable as the latest version of the Saucony Hurricane.

The Hurricane 22 has an all new upper called FORMFIT. Saucony.com states that the latest upper “FORMFIT acts like a luxurious bucket seat for your foot, conforming to you for the perfect fit and providing comfort from every angle.”

These are big updates to an already great shoe. I am looking forward to seeing how others react to these changes.
