On Cloudace Review

On Cloudace Shoe

I have been looking forward to trying the On Cloudace ever since I reviewed the On Cloudstratus a few weeks ago. The fit, feel, and performance was something I haven’t seen in a running shoe in quite some time.

With the price tag of $199, I had high expectations of this shoe. If you read this blog regularly, you already know I wear a stability/performance stability shoe, which is what the Cloudace is touted as.

Sizing Recommendation: I would recommend ordering a 1/2 size up when buying the On Cloudace.

At the time of this review there were three color options. The color worn in this review was my least favorite, but the only one in my size, which indicates how popular this shoe is.

On Cloudace Shoe Verdict

Our Rating:
Viewer Rating:

Ever since reviewing the On Cloudstratus, I always wondered if there would be another shoe I like more than it. The Cloudace is an awesome shoe for those longer runs where you aren’t looking to go fast and need a little extra support and cushion. These shoes are comfortable, just a little heavier than the Cloudstratus.

You will notice the quality of the materials in the shoe, which is tied to the price point. They look and feel luxurious. The shoes continued to feel better the more I wore them, it was just a little tough to justify the price tag with so many other great shoes in the $100-$170 price range.

This On Cloudace running shoe is expensive and retails for $200.

The Cloudace had minor updates from its original version, so if you liked the original version, you will like the updated version. While I love the extra support and cushion, this shoe is a bit too much for me.

If you are looking for a supportive and responsive running shoe, give the On Cloudace a try.

About the On Cloudace Shoe

The On Cloudace running is the maximum support shoe from On. The shoe has two types of CloudTec®, which helps with cushion and responsiveness. I will get into more details in the sole section, but the combination of these two really make this shoe great for those longer runs.

The shoe weighs in around 11.8oz so a little heavier than some other shoes, but as I mentioned this shoe is really for those who need a little extra support and cushion.

I currently have a pair of the On Cloudflyer and On Cloudstratus and this shoe definitely feels like a bit more of heavy duty, high mileage shoe. The materials and craftsmanship is impressive and you can tell that a lot of thought was put into this shoe.

The On Cloudace has an 9mm drop, which is similar to the drop I like for middle to longer distance runs. Like previous versions of this shoe, the Cloudace is great for races of all distances, from a 5k to a marathon.

On Cloudace Shoe Specifications

On Cloudace Initial Thoughts

I was really excited to try the Cloudace shoes. After reading other reviews online, I knew that this shoe would be made with top quality materials built to withstand long runs.

When I first opened the box, I immediately notice the attention to detail and qualify of each part of this shoe. While the color I bought wasn’t my favorite, it was still a great looking running shoe.

Besides the color, the one thing I noticed was the weight. This shoe was definitely heavier than the On Cloudstratus, similar to the traditional Asics Gel-Kayano. I was really excited to give this shoe a try as soon as I put them on.

On Cloudace Upper

The upper part of the Cloudace is very similar to the previous version of this running shoe. The upper material continues to be an engineered mesh that combines comfort and support.

If you read other reviews and ask fellow runners, they will all rave about the upper of this shoe. Its high quality and really provides the necessary stability for those who need it. The upper material is sleek and keeps your foot in place.

There were minimal updates to the upper portion of the On Cloudace running shoe.

The tongue, laces, and upper material not only look great, but feel great. If there is one thing that stood out to me about this shoe, is how it looked and felt.

Below are a few pictures of the upper portion of the On Cloudace.

On Cloudace Sole

The sole of the On Cloudace remains similar to the previous version. If you aren’t familiar with On Running shoes, most of them have CloudTec pods that do an incredible job of absorbing the impact of your weight while running. If you wear these on a rocky trail, you may get a rock or acorn stuck in the sole from time to time. Not a big deal, just a heads up.

The Cloudace shoes have a dual-layer of CloudTec pods, making this shoe plush and supportive, similar to a Hoka shoe. The other thing you will notice is the orange speedboard that runs underneath the shoe. This polypropylene Speedboard helps promote a responsive turnover, making this shoe even faster.

“It features two different types of CloudTec® for a stable ride with a unique sensation. Rebound Rubber forefoot Clouds feel responsive. Under the heel, Clouds in Helion® superfoam provide no-compromise cushioning. The result is a seriously ace running sensation. Your Sunday long run just got longer.”

I have around 100 miles on the shoes so far and the soles continue to feel better and appear to be extremely durable. As I mentioned, these shoes are great, just alot of shoe if you prefer something that is lightweight.
