Hoka One One Hupana Shoe Review

Hoka One One Hupana Review

Hoka One One Hupana

Prior to buying a pair of the Hoka One One Hupana I read a number of reviews and asked folks on Twitter about their experience with it. Almost everyone said it was an awesome shoe for both running and casual wear.

I have been looking for a shoe that I can wear around town, on short runs, and mid-distance runs. Everything I read made the Hupana sound like a great fit for what I was looking for.

Some of the more recent Hoka shoe reviews I have done have shown that most of their shoes are still a little narrow for my liking (Arahi and Gavoita). I am hoping to have some restored faith in Hoka with the Hupana.

The Hoka One One Hupana men’s and women’s model each have three colors to choose from. Not a huge fan of some of the colors, but I would prefer a high-performance shoe over a stylish one.

Hoka One One Hupana Verdict

If you are looking for a responsive, lightweight neutral shoe, I would recommend giving the Hoka One One Hupana try.

This Hupana offers a unique balance of style and support that is great for shorter to middle distances. These shoes retail for $115 so they are value priced.

If you are looking for extra support or cushion then you may want to try the Ariata, Clifton, or Gaviota. They all have a bit more support than the Hupana.

The one thing I haven’t done yet is run with these in wet conditions. The sole on the shoe leads me to believe that it may not be the best shoe for wet conditions.

Hoka One One Hupana Initial Thoughts

Like most of the recent Hoka shoes, the lightweight support is immediately noticed when you put these shoes on.

Before running in these shoes, I did a few laps around the family to see how they felt. I quickly noticed how stiff the upper was. I assumed this would break in, but wanted to mention it because it was hard to miss.

Even though the shoes were a little narrow, they felt light and fast.

Hoka One One Hupana Overview

The Hoka One One Hupana is lightweight neutral running shoe that is great for casual wear and short to mid-distance runs.

The Hupana is built upon the full-length RMAT, which provides lightweight support and superb cushioning for its weight.

The knitted upper of this shoe is comfortable, lightweight and contours to your foot. The Hupana is a flexible shoe that as I mentioned can be used for multiple distances.

Hoka One One Hupana Sole

Unlike most other Hoka shoes, the Hupana doesn’t have the Early Stage Meta-Rocker sole. The full RMAT sole is lightweight and supportive. The 5mm drop combined with the responsive sole makes for a smooth and comfortable ride.

One thing I am curious to see is the durability of this sole. In other reviews I have read, the sole continues to perform as mileage increased. As I mentioned above I am really curious to see how these feel in the rain and snowy conditions.

The simplicity of this sole and upper make for a shortened shoe review.

Below are a few pictures of the Hupana sole.

Hoka One One Hupana Upper

The upper of the Hupana shoe is simple, a seamless knitted upper that provides ample support for a few stylish options.

As I mentioned earlier, the upper of this shoe is initially stiff, but eventually, will soften up and break in.

The synthetic overlays help provide enough support to keep your feet secure while running.

Many reviews I read mentioned how narrow these shoes were. I didn’t think they were extremely but would have preferred a wider forefoot.

Here a few pictures of the upper of the Hupana.
