The latest version of the Hoka One One Arahi 3 stability shoe is now available! If you read some of my other shoe reviews, you know that I primarily wear stability running shoes due to my slight overpronation running style.

I was impressed with the updates to the Arahi 2 and that was one of the primary reasons I was looking forward to the latest version of this shoe. The Arahi 3 has 4 great color options to choose from, something you don’t see often. The color used for this review is a color I really haven’t worn before. A bright color is something I prefer to run at night or early morning.

These shoes have been worn a handful of times with the longest run being 12 miles long. If my experience with this shoe changes, I will update this review.

I recommend giving the Hoka One One Arahi 3 a try if you want a lightweight stability running shoe. Runners who liked the Arahi 2 will like the updates to the Arahi 3.

If you haven’t worn Hokas before, they are well known for their marshmallow like foam sole. The brand has grown in popularity over the past few years. The sole takes a little getting used to, especially if you run in a more traditional running shoe.

One thing to note is that I would suggest wearing these on the road. Wearing these on a trail would decrease the life of the sole.

Meta-Rocker technology improves the transition with each stride. The shoe continued to have a slightly wider toe box, which my feet appreciated. Even though this shoe is .2 ounces heaver it still feels light.

Hoka One One Arahi 3 Initial Thoughts

While there were minor updates the Arahi 3 shoe, I wanted to see how the latest version would look and feel.

When I opened the box, I was drawn to the brightness of the color, something I thought was pretty cool. The shoe looked similar to the previous version and felt lighter than expected. I ordered a 1/2 size up in D width just to make sure my feet had enough room. I learned from the Arahi 2 that ordering ½ size was best for me and something I would recommend.

I started walking around the house in these shoes and noticed the similar rocker feel with this shoe. Rocker technology feels a little weird while walking but great while running. The shoe was a little stiff at first but softened quickly as I started to run in them.

Hoka One One Arahi 3 Overview

The Hoka One One Arahi 3 running shoes is one of the lightest stability running shoes on the market weighing around 9.5 ounces. Updates to this version of the Arahi are the redesigned mesh upper making it more comfortable than its predecessor. The sole remains very similar to the previous version.

The Arahi 3 reduces overpronation by using an EVA J-Frame Construction. The Arahi 3 comes with an active foot frame, which helps runners looking for a stability shoe by reducing over-pronation.

This shoe is better suited for runners looking for a lightweight and responsive running shoe.

Hoka One One Arahi 3 Sole

There were minimal updates to the Arahi 3 sole. Even though the sole looks the same, it was slightly refined to improve the heel to toe transition. I didn’t notice this as much but wanted to at least mention it.

The Arahi 3 continues to utilize the EVA J-Frame. This lightweight feature has a firm EVA foam along the medial side of the shoe and around the heel to support and guide the foot. The sole continues to be made of high abrasion rubber to improve durability.

If you are unfamiliar with the Early Stage Meta-Rocker technology, Hoka One One describes it as being “specifically engineered with a low heel-toe differential and a sculpted outsole radius in the heel and toe, creates a unique fulcrum effect and encourages a guided foot gait cycle.” This technology is used in a number of Hoka shoes, including the Hoka Arahi, Challenger, and Clifton shoe models.

Hoka One One Arahi 3 Upper

The Hoka One One Arahi 3 upper was the main thing that was updated with the latest version of the shoe. The new lightweight upper has an updated mesh with improved midfoot lockdown feature making the shoe more stable with increased breathability.

One of the cool things I noticed when running in these was the reflective piece on the heel.

The upper mesh lining near the heel feels more comfortable and felt better while running. The Molded Ortholite Sockliner helps with odor management and increases the comfort of the shoe.
