Brooks Transcend 4 Shoe Review

I recently wrote about the Brooks PureCadence 6 and soon after had the opportunity to try out another Brooks stability shoe, the Brooks Transcend 4. This max cushion stability shoe offers a plush, yet responsive feel.

I typically don’t run in max cushion shoes, but this shoe doesn’t look or feel like a max cushion shoe, more like a daily trainer. This shoe is extremely comfortable and looks sharp.

This shoe comes in 3 colors, only 1 of them I like. 2 of the 3 men’s colors are black, which is a color I stay away from because they tend to be warmer during the summer months.

The Brooks Transcend is a great max cushion stability shoe that provides incredible support and responsive cushioning.

Below are a few things I like and don’t like about the Brooks Transcend 4.

Things I like Things I don’t like
  • Lightweight Feel
  • Responsive Support
  • True to Size
  • Bad Color Options (3)
  • Expensive ($160)

Brooks Transcend 4 Shoe Verdict

If you are looking for a max cushion stability running shoe then I highly recommend giving the Brooks Transcend a try.

This was the first Transcend version I have tried so I can’t compare these to a previous model. I will tell you that based on the reviews and information I have read, the sole is similar and the upper has a few updates.

The Transcend 4 is expensive at $160, but you can get the Brooks Transcend 3 for a reduced price on multiple sites, with one of them being Amazon.

One thing to note is that if you prefer more of a minimalist feel, I would recommend trying the Brooks PureCadence as the Brooks Transcend may feel too soft.

Below are a few pictures of the shoes worn for this review.

Brooks Transcend 4 Shoe Initial Thoughts

For the last few years, The only Brooks shoes I have run in are the Brooks PureCadence and the Brooks ST Racers. I was excited to try out a max cushion shoe by Brooks since I am getting a little older and appreciate the extra support.

The color options aren’t exactly great for this shoe, but Brooks does have one blue color that looks pretty cool.

When I first put these shoes on you could tell that they were a max cushion shoe. They were comfortable, supportive, and a little softer than some of the other shoes I have worn. I liked that the forefoot seemed a little wider than some other Brooks shoes.

My first thought about this shoe was that Brooks created a great max cushion shoe that could be used by people looking for something with a little extra support.

This max cushion shoe has an 8mm drop and weighs 10.8 oz for a men’s size 9. This shoe isn’t the lightest Brooks running shoe, but one of the most supportive.

The redesigned upper is more comfortable while the Super DNA sole remains similar to previous versions.

Weighing in at 10.8 oz for a men’s size 9, these shoes aren’t the lightest, but provide max cushion support.

Brooks Transcend 4 Shoe Upper

The Brooks Transcend 4 upper was updated with the latest model. Similar to other Brooks shoes, the Transcend 4 has a new 3D Fit Print upper feels seamless, one that provides a more comfortable fit.

In order to keep the foot secure, Brooks has updated overlays that help to keep the midfoot in place while providing a comfortable and snug fit.

The updated heel collar has a soft cushion that keeps your heel secure and comfortable.

The pictures below shoe detailed views of the redesigned upper of the Transcend 4.

Brooks Transcend 4 Shoe Sole

The Brooks Transcend 4 sole had minimal changes for the latest version of this shoe.

The sole of the Transcend 4 continues to use the super DNA midsole, which offers incredible cushioning and molds to your foot. You may not notices this immediately, but over time you feel the shoe contour to your foot.

The flex midsole offers incredible flexibility and the rounded heel promotes a natural running motion. The rounded heel is important for max cushion shoes since running form can sometimes change with shoes that have max support.

Improved guard rails increase support and stability. If you like the sole from the Transcend 3, you will like the of this shoe.

Below are a few pictures of the Transcend 4 sole.
