Brooks PureCadence 7 Shoe Review

Brooks PureCadence 7

The Brooks PureCadence running shoe has always been one of my favorite running shoes. My joy of running in these shoes started a number of years back with the original PureCadence. Over the past few years, I have continued to write reviews on the latest PureCadence shoes. It has been great to see how this shoe has evolved from the first version. This past summer, I finally retired my last pair of the original PureCadence shoes.

The changes to the PureCadence 7 aren’t as drastic from the changes to the PureCadence 6 from the PureCadence 5.

The PureCadence 7 continues the tradition of being a great all-around stability shoe that provides lightweight support and responsive cushioning.

The one thing that I continue to struggle with a number of Brooks Running shoes are the color schemes. There were two other color options of this shoe, none that I liked more than the ones I ended up wearing for this review. My wife thought the women’s colors were even worse.

Here are a few pros and cons of the PureCadence 7 running shoe.

Pros Cons
  • Lightweight
  • Responsive
  • Run true to size
  • Price ($110)
  • Color options
  • Hard to find
  • Low drop

Brooks PureCadence 7 Shoe Verdict

Viewer Rating:

The Brooks PureCadence model continues to deliver. The shoe has a redesigned upper that improves comfort with a seamless upper.

While I like the feel of the seamless upper, I don’t think it would perform well in wet weather. The fabric felt like it would soak up any moisture, rain or snow. Not a big deal for most runners, but wanted to mention it.

If you are looking for a lightweight stability shoe with a lower drop, I suggest giving these a try. These shoes are reasonably priced at $110. You can usually find a coupon for these so I wouldn’t pay retail.

The longest run completed in these shoes was 10 miles. They felt lightweight and fast. The only thing that I noticed was that these felt flatter compared to the other shoes I’m currently running in.

One thing to note is that if you prefer extra support and cushion, you may want to try the Brooks Transcend 4 as the PureCadence may feel too minimal.

Brooks PureCadence 7 Shoe Initial Thoughts

Knowing that I have been a big fan of this shoe for years, I was excited to give the latest version a try. With so many updates to other running shoes, like the Brooks LevitateSaucony Hurricane ISO 4, and the Hoka One One Arahi 2, I was interested to see how these shoes would compare.

When I first opened the box and picked up the shoes, I immediately was surprised with how light the shoe was. It was way lighter than I expected based on some of the other reviews I have read about this shoe.

The fabric of the upper was a little different than I expected but thought it would be very comfortable. When I first put these shoes on they felt lightweight and responsive. Similar to previous models of this shoe it was apparent that these have a lower drop than the Asics GT-2000 6 which I have been running in lately.

My initial thoughts about these shoes were that they would be a great shoe to wear casually, just wasn’t sure how they would perform while running.

Brooks PureCadence 7 Shoe Overview

The Brooks PureCadence 7 is a stability running shoe designed for runners with a mild overpronated running motion. While this shoe is considered a stability shoe, it feels like less of a shoe than other Brooks stability shoes.

Like its predecessor, this shoe provides a natural running feel, with a lower heel to forefoot drop of 4mm. Most Asics are usually around 6-10mm so something to think about if you are interested in trying this shoe.

The redesigned upper feels wider and felt better during my runs with these shoes. The updated material does add .4 ounces which most people won’t notice.

Weighing in at 9 oz for a men’s size 9, these shoes feel light and responsive.

Brooks PureCadence 7 Shoe Upper

The Brooks PureCadence 7 upper was updated to the latest version. The woven material adds a little weight to the shoe (.4oz) but isn’t anything to be concerned with.

Additionally, it now has an internal lining that improves stability. The updated overlays also provide some additional support, all without seams.

The tongue of the shoe is similar to the latest version and felt comfortable when tying the shoe. The heel has a soft cushion that keeps things secure and comfortable.

One thing that concerned me about the upper was wearing these in rain and snow. The upper material seemed like it would soak up water and snow.

Brooks PureCadence 7 Shoe Sole

The Brooks PureCadence 7 sole had no changes with the latest version of this shoe. The shoe continues to have a rounded heel, which encourages a more natural motion and promotes forefoot landing.

The shoe midsole uses the same BioMoGO technology, providing a responsive ride with increased support. The groves in the sole make it great for running on almost any surface. I would recommend running in these shoes on roads or light trails.

The Dual Toe Flex allows the big toe more room and allows the foot to have a more natural push-off and provides improved balance while running.
