Brooks Levitate 3 Shoe Review

Brooks Levitate 3 Shoe Review

Brooks Levitate 3

The Brooks Levitate 3 is now available. The latest version of this popular running shoe continues to provide a bouncy sole and and improved knit upper, making this a great shoe for daily training.

The name of tis shoe explains how it wants you to feel. Brooks want you to feel like you rise and hover in the air, especially by means of supernatural or magical power.

According to Brooks, the original Levitate went through “Nine rounds of development. Seven rounds of wear tests. Thousands of runner trials. Every feature is designed to give the most energy return of leading performance running shoes.”

The Brooks Levitate 3 is available in 4 color options for both men’s and women’s. The shoe retails for $150, so more expensive than most shoes.

Below is my review of the Brooks Levitate 3.

Brooks Levitate 3 Shoe Verdict

[Total: 1    Average: 4/5]

As excited I was for the Brooks Levitate 3, my verdict is very similar to the Brooks Levitate 2. I like the updates to the shoe, but still think it feels a little heavy for middle to long distance runs. The shoe weights similarly to the Levitate 2, something you will notice if you wear lighter daily trainers.

The shoe continues to be comfortable, responsive, and the updated sock liner really makes this shoe really comfortable.

If you prefer a responsive and comfortable shoe that is a little heavier, I would recommend giving this shoe a try.

One thing to note, the longest run in the Levitate 3 was 10 miles. As I mentioned, the shoe is comfortable, just heavier than I would want for something that costs $150.

I ordered a 1/2 size up in this shoe and the sizing worked out well.

Brooks Levitate 3 Shoe Initial Thoughts

While I liked the Brooks Levitate 2, I was excited to see what the latest version of the Levitate would feel like. I had read a number of mixed reviews and wanted to try this shoe for myself and share my findings of my experience with this shoe.

When I first opened the box and saw the shoes, I was impressed with the color option I purchased. The grey and blue look sleek and stylish. I do like the updated knit upper, but nothing that was different than some of the other shoes with a similar upper.

As I previously mentioned, this shoe is heavier than what I usually run in and noticed that when walking around the house.

The shoe has an 8mm drop, which is a little higher than some of the Saucony shoes I have recently reviewed.

Brooks Levitate 3 Shoe Overview

The Brooks Levitate 3 is a neutral running shoe that has a responsive sole and knit upper, making it stylish and a solid shoe for daily training. The main change on the latest version is the updated knit upper, which improves the fit and secures the foot all while providing a soft and responsive feel.

The sole is very responsive, almost bouncy and combined with a redesigned upper allows the shoe to provide a great feel while running. The energy return of the sole almost springs you forward, making the shoe feel lighter than it really is.

Both men’s and women’s have 4 color options, sometimes Brooks creates additional colors if the shoe sells well like the Adrenaline.

The retail price of this shoe is $150, which is higher than I’m willing to pay for most running shoes. If you want help finding a discount, contact me.

Brooks Levitate 3 Shoe Sole

The Brooks Levitate 3 shoe sole was tweaked slightly with the latest version of the shoe. While it continues to be one of the focal points of this shoe, the updated DNA AMP cushioning system is made up of a softer foam.

The Brooks DNA AMP midsole continues to be one of the most advanced midsole compounds on the market. The latest version really does provide a softer feel, something you will notice if you wore the previous version of this shoe. The sole combines polyurethane foam with an encased TPU skin to provide one of the most responsive running shoe soles.

The sole has an arrow-pointed outsole that can be seen in the pictures below. This improves flexibility, something that some of the Saucony EVERUN soles do. This is unchanged from its predecessor.

Brooks Levitate 3 Shoe Upper

While the upper may appear to be similar to the Levitate 2, there were a few updates made to this part of the shoe. The knit upper and tongue have been updated to improve the fit and feel of this shoe.

The heel has a suede-like material that reduces friction and eliminates your heel from slipping. This is a little different fro other running shoes if you haven’t worn something like this before.

I do think the tongue is a little too long, but still really comfortable.
