Brooks Glycerin 16 Shoe Review

Brooks Glycerin 16 Shoe Review

Brooks Glycerin 16

Brooks has once again delivered on the popular Glycerin running shoe. The Glycerin shoe is a great high mileage neutral shoe that provides a plush and responsive ride. Last year I reviewed the Glycerin 15 and similar to last year, the shoe continues to be a great shoe for daily training and long runs.

If you subscribe to my blog, you know that I usually run in a more minimalist shoe. Even though I prefer lighter shoes, the updated Glyercin 16 really feels great.

This shoe is great for a number of reasons, but one of the things I like is that Brooks offers 6 colors to choose from. I like having an option when buying shoes, especially ones that cost $150.

This is the third review of a Brooks Glycerin model. Due to my experiences last year with the Glyercin 15, I was excited to give the updated version a try and share my thoughts and opinion.

Brooks Glycerin 16 Shoe Verdict

Our Rating:
Viewer Rating:

The Brooks Glycerin continues to be a very popular neutral running shoe. The updates to this shoe improve performance and feel, something that you will notice if you wore the Glycerin 15.

Even though the shoe is .2 oz heavier, you won’t really notice when running. I usually prefer running in shoes that are a bit lighter., but this shoe still feels great for all distances.

The shoe liner by the heel continues to be very comfortable and provides a great fit. I kind of wish that Brooks would have the same liner in some of their other shoes.

If you are looking for a responsive and comfortable neutral running shoe, consider trying the Brooks Glycerin 16. The only thing that I’m not a fan of is the $150 price tag.

Brooks Glycerin 16 Shoe Initial Thoughts

Having reviewed the Glycerin 15 I had a good idea that I was going to like the latest version. With the new responsive sole, I was excited to see how these shoes would look and feel.

When I first opened the box I immediately liked the color and could see the new material for the updated DNA Loft insole. Even just from walking around the house you could tell that these shoes were going to be great to run in.

The heel continues to have an incredible sock-like fit that was very comfortable. The padded tongue makes the shoe feel great when the laces were tied.

The shoe remains to have a 10mm drop (rear to front), which is a little higher than the majority of shoes I run in.

Brooks Glycerin 16 Shoe Overview

The Brooks Glycerin 16 running shoe continues to be a top-rated neutral running shoe ideal for daily training and long distances.

The responsive sole of these shoes makes them great for daily training, long runs, and recovery runs. The updated one-piece upper and DNA Loft midsole really makes this shoe feel great.

There are plenty of color options to choose from, but I only liked 2 of them, one of which was used for this review.

Weighing in at 10.8 oz (.2 oz more than last year) for a men’s size 9, these shoes are very supportive for how much this shoe weighs.

Brooks Glycerin 16 Shoe Sole

The Brooks Glycerin 16 sole has had some major updates compared to its predecessor. When I took the shoe out of the box, I immediately noticed the difference in look and feel of the DNA Loft midsole.

The sole of the Glycerin 16 continues to have a rounded heel, DNA Loft midsole material, and blown rubber compound really making the sole feel durable.

In order to make the DNA Loft midsole was updated by adding air and rubber to their famous DNA foam, creating their latest midsole.

The rounded heel and curved forefoot promote a natural running movement. In addition to the DNA Loft midsole, the shoe has IDEAL pressure zones on the sole that help distribute the pressure and increase the responsiveness of this shoe.

Brooks Glycerin 16 Shoe Upper

When I took the Brooks Glycerin 16 out of the box, I noticed the slits in the one-piece mesh upper. Not only did it look cool, but you could tell that the shoe would breathe well.

The update with the Brooks Glycerin 16 is a redesigned one-piece 3D stretch upper with stretchy overlays. The 3D printed stretch overlays improve the fit while the overlays increase the support of almost any foot types and shapes.

One of my favorite things they kept in the latest version was the soft sock liner. The sock liner keeps your foot snug and is one of the most comfortable liners on the market. The DNA Loft midsole feels very similar to the Saucony EVERUN sole. Responsive, fast, and comfortable.

The shoe continues to have a saddle structure that provides a great fit for all types of feet. The padded tongue feels soft and comfortable when the laces are tied.
