Brooks Glycerin 14 Shoe Review

Brooks Glycerin 14 Running Shoe Review

My sister has been a huge fan of the Brooks Glycerin running shoe for the past few years. Prior to receiving the 14th Glycerin model used for this review, I have always ran in the Brooks PureCadence or the Brooks ST Racer.

I recently asked my sister what made this shoe her go to training and racing shoe. She responded with the Brooks Glycerin was not only comfortable, but responsive and light enough to be worn for almost any distance, including the marathon. She did note it wasn’t the lightest shoe she has ran in, but that didn’t matter to her.

Having run in so many Brooks shoes, this is the first Brooks Glycerin shoe review on theActiveGuy.com. Having heard so many great things about this shoe, I was excited to give this shoe a try and share my thoughts and opinion.

Here are the colors that are now available for the Brooks Glycerin 14 running shoe. The men’s and women’s model each have three colors to choose from.

Brooks Glycerin 14 Shoe Verdict

The Brooks Glycerin running shoe is a great neutral shoe if you are looking for a responsive and durable running shoe. The updates to this shoe feel great and have been extremely comfortable from the first time I put these on. As I mentioned this is the first pair of Glycerins I have worn so I cannot compare them to earlier versions of the shoe.

I normally run in shoes that are lighter, but the 10.6oz weight didn’t bother me during my runs used for this shoe review (up to 10 miles). Due to the weight I would not wear these to race in.

The liner by the heel was very comfortable and provided an incredible fit, something I haven’t seen in some of the other Brooks shoes I have worn.

If you are looking for a supportive and comfortable neutral running shoe, you should definitely consider the Brooks Glycerin 14.

Brooks Glycerin 14 Shoe Initial Thoughts

Having never worn the Brooks Glycerin model, I was anxious to see how these shoes would look and feel, especially since my sister has been raving about this Brooks running shoe. When I first opened the box and put the shoes on I was impressed with the look and feel of the shoe.

The heel has a sock like fit that was really comfortable and I liked the blue and grey color combination. The padded tongue made the shoe feel great when the laces were tied.

I thought the 10mm stack height would bother me, but it felt great and smooth from the first step.

Brooks Glycerin 14 Shoe Overview

The Brooks Glycerin 14 running shoe is a highly rated neutral running shoe that can be used for daily training and long distances for runners a with a neutral or supinated foot motion.

As mentioned, this shoe is great for daily training and those long runs during training. The updated upper and superDNA sole give ample support.

The three color options are solid, but feel they could be better (I tend to always feel this way).

Weighing in at 10.6 oz for a men’s size 9, these shoes felt great for how supportive they are.

Brooks Glycerin 14 Shoe Sole

The Brooks Glycerin 14 sole has a number of features that make it impressive. As I mentioned this is the first time I have reviewed a Glycerin shoe so I was anxious to see how the sole would feel and hold up over time.

Some of the things I noticed about the sole included a rounded heel, a superNDA midsole material, omega flex grooves, and the blown rubber compound really felt like it would sustain the pounding of running long distances.

The rounded heel was unique and helped promote a more natural running movement. In addition to the superDNA midsole, the shoe has IDEAL pressure zones on the sole that help distribute the pressure and improve support of this shoe.

The sole seems flexible, similar to the updated Saucony ISO 2 soles (EVERUN technology).

All in all, I am impressed with the sole as it feels sturdy, supportive, and held up during the time I ran for this review.

Brooks Glycerin 14 Shoe Upper

The Brooks Glycerin 14 upper felt great when I first took it out of the box. As I began to read and learn more about the shoe, I realized it has a number of features that make it feel so great.

The major update with the Brooks Glycerin 14 is the all new one piece 3D stretch upper. The 3D stretch provides a one piece, great fitting upper that will accommodate almost any foot types and shapes. One you think will notice with many new running shoes, is that most uppers are now one piece, for this exact reason.

Similar to other running shoes, the Brooks Glycerin 14 has a mesh upper, that provides breathability and allows the upper handle any moisture.

The soft sockliner feels absolutely amazing. The BioMoGo foam feels great the first time you put the shoe on. In addition to the sockliner, the saddle structures provide a great fit for all types of feet. The padded tongue feels soft and comfortable when the laces are tied.
