Brooks Ghost 9 Shoe Review

Brooks Ghost 9 Running Shoe Review

Brooks has always been one of my favorite brands to run in. Whether it was the ST Racer’s or the PureCadence, I have thought highly of this running brand and the quality of running shoes they produce.

When I read that Brooks was coming out with a new version of the Brooks Ghost, I wanted to give them a try since I’ve never tried running in the the popular Ghost model. I did a quick search and read positive reviews and thought these would be worth checking out. A shoe with 9 versions has to be doing something right.

This is the first Brooks Ghost shoe review on theActiveGuy.com.

Here are the colors that are now available for the Brooks Ghost 9 running shoe. The men’s have 5 colors, including the Victory (USA colors) color that isn’t shown below. The women’s has 4 total with the Victory color.

Below are some of the the men’s colors (excludes the victory color).

Brooks Ghost 9 Shoe Verdict

The Brooks Ghost 9 is a solid neutral running shoe that provides ample support and works great for road running.

The fit of the shoe is not only comfortable, but supportive enough for daily training. This is the first pair of Brooks Ghost shoes I have ran in so I cannot tell you how they compare to previous models.

While these shoes are comfortable, I would not recommend them for racing as they weigh in at a little over a 11oz. They definitely felt a little heavier than some of the other shoes I have recently reviewed (Hoka Clifton 3 is 8.8oz).

The shoe had a sock like fit and as I mentioned, were comfortable, just not as light as I would prefer for everyday training.

If you are looking for a solid neutral running shoe, then I suggest you check out the Brooks Ghost 9.

Brooks Ghost 9 Shoe Initial Thoughts

When I received the Brooks Ghost 9, I was curious to see how these shoes would fit. They looked great online and offered solid color options that I liked. Upon opening the box, I was immediately impressed with the initial comfort when I first put them on to walk around.

The heel has a sock like fit that was really comfortable and I liked the blue and grey color combination. The padded tongue made the shoe feel great when the laces were tied.

I thought the 12mm stack height would be too much for me, but it felt great and smooth with the first few steps.

Brooks Ghost 9 Shoe Overview

The Brooks Ghost 9 running shoe is a neutral running shoe that can be used for daily training and long distances for runners.

The Brooks Ghost 9 is great running shoe for daily runs and longer training runs. The updated sole provide plenty of cushion and support.

Add in plenty of color options (4 for women, 5 for men), and you have a great shoe in a variety of choices. One of my favorite colors is the Brooks Victory scheme.

The 11.2 ounce weight is a little heavier than some of the other Brooks shoe models. With the increased weight means increased support, which some people prefer.

Brooks Ghost 9 Shoe Sole

The Brooks Ghost 9 sole has a number of features that make it impressive. The one main update to the shoe relates to the grooves on the forefoot of the shoe. The updated sole has deeper grooves, that provide a more comfortable and flexible feel.

Additionally, the Brooks Ghost 9 sole is composed of the BioMoGo DNA, which connects the BioMoGo midsole and provides additional cushioning and support.

One thing that I thought was cool was the the Caterpillar Crash Pad. This is a piece of the sole that helps improve stability and provide a smoother landing with each stride.

Even with the updates, the sole is a little stiffer than some of the other shoes I have ran in.

All in all, the updates to this sole really seemed to improve the grip and feel of this running shoe.

Brooks Ghost 9 Shoe Upper

The Brooks Ghost 9 upper felt great when I first took it out of the box. As I mentioned in my initial thoughts, the first time I laced these up, they almost felt like a sock.

I went on to read that Brooks changed the upper of the shoe to include a seamless mesh upper that contours to foot providing a more supportive and comfortable fit. I definitely noticed the comfort and support piece when I first put these shoes on.

The BioMoGo foam Sockliner and straddle overlay provide a comfortable and supportive fit.

Similar to other running shoes, the Brooks Ghost 9 has an updated seamless mesh upper, something that many new running shoes have.

Below are a few pictures of the Brooks Ghost 9 upper shoe area.
