361 Degrees Sensation 3 Shoe Review

361 Degrees Sensation 3

I was first introduced to the 361 Degrees a few weeks back when Brittany from 361 Degrees sent me an email asking if I had tried any of their running shoes. A few days later just before the 2018 Cleveland Marathon, I saw a guy with a pair of shoes that had a design that looked like a 3 that I had never seen before. I ended up talking with someone who has worn previous Sensation models and mentioned that the 3rd version of this shoe was over an ounce lighter than its predecessor.

361 Degrees is a newer shoe brand that includes a foam technology called QU!KFOAM.

When trying a new running shoe, I usually look at the shoe performance, the weight, and the price. The Sensation 3 shoe retails for $130, which is higher than I wanted to send on a shoe I haven’t tried on before.

The one thing that I was initially impressed with the shoe were the color options of the Sensation 3. The 3 color options were great for both men and women, something that doesn’t usually happen with running shoes.

Here are a few pros and cons of the Sensation 3 running shoe.

361 Degrees Sensation 3 Shoe Verdict

The Sensation 3 shoe really surprised me, so much that I wear the shoe a few times a week now.

The shoe is lightweight, responsive, and comfortable. The QU!KFOAM sole performed much better than I expected, almost to the likes of the Asics DynaFlyte shoe.

If you are looking for a lightweight stability shoe with a higher drop (9mm), I suggest giving this shoe a try. While these shoes retail at $130, you can usually find a coupon for these so I wouldn’t pay retail.

The longest run completed in these shoes was 12 miles. These shoes felt great the entire run and am looking forward to testing the durability of these higher priced shoes.

361 Degrees Sensation 3 Shoe Initial Thoughts

When I first opened the box and picked up the shoes, I was really impressed with the bright green shoes. The slick design and color option was appealing to me and something I really liked.

The shoe felt light, responsive, and just looked fast. The tongue was padded and felt soft to the touch. The mesh upper felt a little stretchy, something that I was hoping would expand with my feet without being too narrow.

My initial thoughts about these shoes were that they would be a great shoe to wear on tempo efforts or daily training. I wasn’t sure how these would perform on longer runs due to the lightweight feel of these.

361 Degrees Sensation 3 Shoe Overview

The 361 Degrees Sensation 3 is a stability running shoe designed for runners with a mild overpronated running motion.

The updated version of the Sensation 3 is over an ounce lighter, making it feel faster than before. The 9mm drop is higher than some other daily trainers, but I really like it. If you prefer zero drop shoes, then this shoe is not for you.

The seamless mesh upper and the foam sole are a great combination for a springy feel and comfortable running shoe.

Weighing in at 9.6 oz for a men’s size 9, these shoes feel lighter than advertised.

361 Degrees Sensation 3 Shoe Upper

The 361 Degrees Sensation 3 upper was updated with the latest version. The mesh and seamless upper provide a great fit and improve breathability. One thing to note is that this shoe doesn’t have any overlays, which is common on many running shoes. Even without these overlays, the mesh upper easily accommodates different foot shapes.

Additionally, the redesigned upper has helped reduced weight, which has contributed to making the shoe lighter.

The one thing that I really liked was the tongue on this shoe. While it is padded in the middle the outer ring of the tongue is thin and very comfortable.

Below are a few pictures of the Sensation 3 upper part of the shoe.

361 Degrees Sensation 3 Shoe Sole

The 361 Degrees Sensation 3 midsole had an update that helped reduce the overall weight of the shoe. The shoe now has a carbon fiber plate in the midfoot which reduces weight and adds some stability to the shoe.

One of the great things about this shoe is the QU!KFOAM midsole. This feels a little like the Saucony EVERUN sole with a little less energy return. The full-length foam is responsive, flexible, and very comfortable. The dual density medial posting provides support and reduces pronation.

I would recommend running in these shoes on roads or light trails.

One thing that I always wonder about new shoes is the durability of the sole. The Sensation 3 sole is made of high abrasion rubber which provides increased durability. The blown rubber material increases traction with increased durability.
