2019 Cleveland Marathon Training Post 2

2019 Cleveland Marathon Training Post 2

2019 Cleveland Marathon

I seriously can’t believe that it is already the middle of February. I was looking at my training calendar from last year and realized that at this point I had already started training for the Cleveland Marathon. When you do the math, we are only about 90 days out from race day, which equates to 12-13 weeks out, which is crazy to think. Similar to last year I’m trying to be smarter this year and not only listen to my body but do not increase my mileage by more than 10%. Over the past month or two, I have run less and biked way more, which has been a nice change for me.

Being an Ambassador again for the 2019 Cleveland Marathon, I want to do everything I can to get to the starting line healthy and in shape. If you haven’t visited the Ambassadors page, you need to check it out. Over the next week or so I plan to start figuring out what kind of training plan I will do for the spring. I have been averaging around 25-30 miles a week running and like 50-75 biking. I have been working out, just haven’t had much structure to it. Having 2 kids under 3 forces me to flexible and workout when I have time. That may have to change somewhat as we start training for the Cleveland Marathon.

Another thing that has been crazy this year is the weather. We have had days where the temperature will fluctuate 30-50 degrees. One day it will rain, then it will snow, then it will rain, and on it goes. We have no control over it so I try to enjoy whatever is thrown at me. Either way, it usually beats running on the treadmill. The one thing I have been wearing are Yaktrax. I can’t run as fast in these, but they have saved me a few times from falling a few times in the snow and ice.

I am also looking for some spring races here in northeast Ohio. If you have any suggestions for spring races, let me know!

If you follow me on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook, then you can see some of the pictures I post of my runs and bike rides. So far, most of my pictures have been of my kids or Zwift. Below are a few from Zwift.

Here are the details of my training over the past two weeks. This includes both cycling and running.

Below are the training details for the week of 2/4/19 (31 miles running, 41 miles cycling).

Below are the training details for the week of 2/11/19 (21 miles running, 56 miles cycling).

As I mentioned earlier, I am in the process of trying to finalize my training plan along with a few races mixed in to see where I am at from a fitness perspective. My main goal is to continue to increase mileage and stay healthy, which is getting harder as I approach 40 (weird typing that).

Leave me a comment or contact me if you have any training suggestions as I continue to prepare for the 2018 Cleveland Marathon. Remember, Save 10% off any Cleveland Marathon race or challenge with coupon code SLONG2019.
